There are many things in this world that do not make sense to me. Politics, women, life in general. The river though, now that makes sense. It is as complicated and as simple as anything in this world. Confusing as it may sound, just think on it for a moment.
Rivers are the veins of our existence and without them we would live in a drastically different world. This is something that I have come to cherish and embrace. Starting on snow-capped peaks and ending in the mysterious ocean, rivers take a journey so powerful that we struggle to grasp the soul piercing moments that accompany it down the way.
The river for me began as pure adventure and adrenaline seeking. It has since morphed into much more. The river has been embedded deep into my spirit. It’s the place that soothes my soul, takes away my troubles and embraces me for me. Explaining something that connects deep to your soul is a very difficult task. Words on paper never seem to convey the true connection.
Wandering waters rage downstream on a blind journey that happens all too fast. It is similar to the way life goes for many of us. You blink and the moment is gone. Appreciating this phenomenon has been life changing. Days spent on the river are never days wasted. Strangers become friends and friends become family. River souls are different from most of the world.
In a world filled with so much negativity and problems, river folk could be the saving grace we need. When in need, they will give you the clothes off of their backs. I can not count how many times I’ve been fed, clothed and housed by river souls. Dirtbags, gypsies, river rats, bums, hippies, call us what you will. The names and stereotypes don’t mean a damn thing. We are who we are and that can not be changed. The laughter and smiles will never be replaced.
In three years time, I have met more amazing and beautiful souls than I knew even existed. All due to the soulful river.
