Dublin City Council is looking for a design team to build a £13 million whitewater course in the heart of the city. The project, planned to complete in 2020, will create a white-water course and a flood-rescue training centre for emergency services.
‘It is envisaged that the white-water course will be located around the edge of George’s Dock (which is adjacent to Custom House Quay) with the swift water training course and possible public lido located on the centre island in the Dock. Water for the facility will be drawn by culvert from the larger dock further north.’
The latest project will transform the dock into a new 250m-long white-water course featuring a pumping station, conveyor belt, pontoon and a central island.
The course would be the first artificial course in Ireland.
