The New Plymouth Kayak Club (NPKC) annual Paddle Festival is a whitewater kayaking event suitable for all levels of kayaking ability with an emphasis on having FUN.
The NPKC has been holding an event like this for a number of years in the form of a club fun day but decided last year to promote Taranaki as a WW kayaking destination by hosting a weekend event that all kayakers are welcome to attend.
Kayaking activities are held on the Trustpower Mangorei Hydroelectric Power Station tailrace that has been developed over the years to include some fun safe whitewater features. Surrounding this is the Meeting of the Waters Scenic Reserve which is also home of TOPEC, the Taranaki Outdoor Pursuits and Education Centre, making for a unique venue whereby competitors including their family/friends can stay Saturday night to enjoy social banter with other like minded kayakers.
The event program will be run similar to last year made up of a basic slalom type competition, super fun boat-across, playwave, playhole and a main feature competition which is the swiss ball team race.
If you feel this is your kind of kayaking event then please support it by being INTERESTED and share with fellow paddlers. Even better just respond by GOING if you wish to attend.
Event Fee is $20 per person
Accomodation at TOPEC is $10 per person
It is expected all participants provide their own equipment typical for whitewater kayaking and have the appropriate kayaking skills.
More general information, details of each competition, event program, social evening, registration and cost will be posted to this Event Page at a later date when available.
